Saunders, 1941
A Week 4 Saunders peony of enormous beauty and overall merit. Close to 90 cm in height and probably as wide. An early herbaceous hybrid with side buds is not a common occurrence. The side buds ensure it is in bloom longer than most hybrids flowering at this time. The stems are purple red while the foliage is very dark green. The snowy white flowers have well formed petals and can be enormous on well grown plants.
I dove into the peony world with very little background in the immense diversitfication of these plants. My first season working on a peony farm was overwhelming, however several plants stood out, and carry fond memories. Garden Peace's elegance was eye catching in a field of beauty. Still a favorite to this day.
